جداسازی بیمار از ونتیلاتور با هدف کاهش حمایت تنفسی وی و برگشت او به سمت تنفس ارادی است. زمان این فرایند با توجه به وضعیت بیمار و مدت اتصال او به دستگاه از چند روز تا چند هفته متغیر خواهد بود.
